Help us find out about our late father MY brother sends me Remember When once he has read it!

He and I were recalling that we know very little about our late father, Eric Plaice. He had no relations; his parents died before we were born and he had no brothers, sisters, cousins, aunts, uncles - nobody. I was wondering if any of your readers could help us trace something of his history. All we know is that his parents Christopher (Kit) and Mary (nee Spence) had a newsagent- cumtobacconists on Newport Road, Middlesbrough, opposite where St Paul's church used to stand. Does anyone remember this shop? I have traced my father's birth to 37 Parson's Cottages, Fairfield, East Hartburn, although they later moved to West Lane, Middlesbrough. On the birth certificate Christopher's occupation is registered as a compositor - I guess you would know something about that - so I don't know when he became a shopkeeper. My father's background seems to be something of a mystery and I would dearly love to find out more. I hope your readers are able to help. I am happy to be contacted by e-mail at grahjo.stn@talk21.com - JOAN STONE Crossley's mystery THE mystery picture on Page 2 of Issue 85 (September 19) is of Crossley's vehicle maintenance yard on Douglas street Middlesbrough. The site was just behind the Marton Road telephone exchange and is now a car park. The row of houses you can see is Cromer Street (still there) and I lived in number 16 from 1950 till 1973.
