Yes I am a Yorkshire man, I live in Middlesbrough Getting our town charter, someone forgot the "O" In the Riding of North Yorkshire we were quite content Politicians interfered, using a system that looked bent Gerrymandering boundaries to get an extra vote Change our name to Teesside, then sit around and gloat After that waste of money, Cleveland was the next new name No matter what they call us, to me it's just the same Now we're called Tees Valley, Teesside Airport is renamed Durham Tees Valley Airport really needs to be explained Now we're a unitary authority, that's done at enormous cost I wish that all politicians would go and just get lost So stop all your searching, we're not lost at all We were we always have been, wondering what name to call Now they are talking about a city, that's more money down the drain Don't they know the country's broke, they must be all insane Name changes make no difference, I'm still a Yorkshire man I will always be so till they put me in the can PETER NOLAN, Middlesbrough, North Yorkshire I WAS born in Middlesbrough, in the North Riding of Yorkshire and if I have to support a cricket team it would be Yorkshire. Yet economically, culturally, accent and lifestyle I have more in common with people from Stockton and Billingham than Northallerton and further south towards Leeds.
I could still call myself a Yorkshire man living within a city of Teesside, formed by the council areas of Stockton and Middlesbrough. I would include areas of Redcar & Cleveland like South Bank, Grangetown, Eston, Normanby, Ormesby and Nunthorpe.See the full content of this document
