The skyline is blotted by cooling towers and smoke stacks. But against this industrial backdrop, nature is busy reclaiming her territory. A landscape torn from her by 50 years of industrial pollution on Teesside is now seeing a biodiversity revival. And this remarkable regeneration has attracted visitors in their thousands to what has to be the most unexpected reserve in Britain. JOANNE WELFORD visited the RSPB's Saltholme centre to discover how conservation and industrialisation have found fertile common ground.
