GEORGE PEACOCK has been recalling his time in the Army and is currently organising a reunion for his old comrades. He especially wants to contact Ray Thompson, who George thinks used to live in the Whinney Banks area of Middlesbrough. He would also like to hear from Reg Crawley who used to live in Redcar. George writes: I was 17-and- a-half when I was posted to 20 OFP, which stood for 20 Ordnance Field Park, in June 1965 as their cook. I was there till late 1969, spending five wonderful years there.

There was great camaraderie. It was only a small unit of just under 100 men. We were a support group for 4 Armoured Brigade, supplying stores, and parts for almost any vehicle to keep the brigade running. About four times a year we would do exercises in all parts of Germany, mostly forests, as if we were really at war. They would last between four to six weeks. At times we would set up camp, camouflage up, only then to get the order to move to a new location. In the middle of a meal everything had to be packed away in the 30 or more trucks. We had to move within the hour and set up again - great fun at times, but a nightmare in the middle of the night.
