Summary


GLOBAL consultancy KPMG warned last week that as much as a fifth of Europe's base chemical capacity was unsustainable, putting up to 14 cracker plants at risk of closure over the next five years as production drifted to the Middle East and Asia.

Although it declined to name the most vulnerable units, it said the Wilton chemical cluster's survival depended on persuading Saudi- owned Sabic that it was worthwhile continuing to invest in its Olefins 8 site.
