STOCKTON Council is facing huge compensation and legal costs after top judges ruled it had "directly discriminated" against a worker stricken by bipolar disorder.

Business support manager, Russell Aylott - who spent long periods off sick and in hospital due to his condition - was sacked by the council in 2006 on grounds his ill health made it impossible for him to continue.
