One of the North's biggest businesses has announced record increases to trading profits.

The North Eastern & Cumbrian Co-op, which is part of the national Co-operative Group of businesses and employs more than 5,500 people in the region, increased its annual profits by 26pc from pounds 12.3m to pounds 15.2 m.
