Quads Mum Makes History ; Tees Woman Gives Birth to Two Sets of Identical Twins Babies Delight

Summary

A TEESSIDE family have made history following the first ever birth of quadruplets made up of two pairs of identical twins in the UK. The ten-million-to-one babies were born to delighted Billingham couple Lisa and Sean Kelly. All girls, Heidi, Annabelle, Hannah and Jessica, entered the world at the Victoria Royal Infirmary in Newcastle on December 27.

They have since been transferred to the University Hospital of North Tees in Stockton where all four, despite their tiny sizes, are said to be able to breathe unaided. The girls are expected to remain at the hospital for the next few weeks. A spokeswoman for the hospital said: "They are all stable and doing well." The four girls are believed to be the first quads made up of two sets of identical twins to be born in the UK.
