The Tees Valley WildlifeTrust has acquired land alongside the River Tees at Preston Farmand is planning to create a huge new woodland on the site as well as a network of footpaths to encourage visitors to the area.

The 17 hectares of land is currently in agricultural use and includes low-lying land adjacent to the river where theWildlife Trust plans to create new reedbeds, pools and ponds. In addition, the land rises in a long embankment to higher ground away from the river. Here the Trust will plant a new woodland of around 7 hectares in extent (that's 70,000 square metres).
