THE boss of a Tees Valley trucking company, which has struggled to beat costs by bringing down its CO emissions, accused the Government of double standards this week as it prepared to unveil its greenest ever Budget.
Gordon Mitchell wanted to fit carbon-busting kit developed by researchers at Kent University to his fleet of 17 trucks based at Riverside Industrial Estate in Middlesbrough. At pounds 4,000 a piece, the kits would have set him back around pounds 68,000 but saved him 10% on his fuel bill - wiping roughly pounds 65,000 a year off the bottom line at Mitchell Trucking Company.
