Hearing Opens Into Jail Death

Summary


An inquest has been opened and adjourned into the death of a Middlesbrough-born prisoner accused of murdering his ex-wife.

David Turner, 48, was found hanged in his cell in Stockton's Holme House Prison last Thursday. Turner was on remand after pleading not guilty to the murder of his civil servant ex-wife Linda Hewitt, 45, on January 26 outside her home in Pity Me, near Durham. Evidence of identification at Teesside Coroner's Court was given by Turner's sister Julie Margaret Stuart, 40, of Coulby Newham.
