Housed in an old caretaker's building at Redcar Community College, Sid's - SID stands for Students in Distress - is somewhere kids who need a bit of space from mainstream school can spend time getting things back on track. This time last year, it was happily getting on with life - a safe haven for youngsters with a variety of needs.
But then along came The Secret Millionaire. When London events planner David "DJ" Jamilly appeared on the Channel 4 show, he was taken with a Gazette article about Sid's Place. In the article, we revealed how an offshoot project, The Rooters, saw the students growing fruit, vegetables and herbs in the Sid's Place garden. Inspired by the students' enthusiasm and drive, DJ gave pounds 25,000 - and the money is now being invested in a much-needed extension.See the full content of this document
