Summary
A COUPLE of intriguing photographs were handed in anonymously to the Evening Gazette - with not only no information about where they came from but also no information about what they show.
However, it is obvious that both these photographs were taken in the car park at the Evening Gazette but exactly when is not clear. The style of the vans and the signs reading My Life By Monty suggest that these pictures date from the 1950s. The photograph with all the snow shows that despite the appalling weather the Evening Gazette still had to be delivered. Here we see some of the drivers clearing the thick snow using brooms. The buildings around the Evening Gazette have changed so much that it is difficult to identify the buildings backing on to the car park. However, we think that it shows part of the grounds of St Richard's School with Stephenson Street beyond when it had houses on it.See the full content of this document
