Summary
AN ABANDONED building which was supposed to serve as a 999 response centre for fire services from across the North-east is costing the taxpayer pounds 150,000 a month. The building at Belmont, outside Durham, was to act as joint control for Cleveland Fire Brigade and the region's three other fire services when contracts were signed under a private finance initiative in June 2007.
