Hundreds off work, but flu on the wane FLU was still keeping hundreds of Teessiders away from work although the epidemic was considered to be on the wane. The number of admissions to hospital had dropped to just 19 over the weekend and there were fewer calls to GPs but despite these good signs, claims for sickness benefit continued to inundate Social Security offices.

The building of a 100- bedroom multi-storey hotel as part of the development was unlikely to go ahead as a result of the latest news.
