Cancer study pioneered in Guisborough A GROUNDBREAKING international cancer study is to be spearheaded in Guisborough, it was revealed. Major tests were to be carried out on the health benefits of selenium - a mineral found in Brazil nuts, grain, fish and meat - which were reputed to protect against cancer. Patients, aged 60 to 74, at a Guisborough surgery were to be involved in a pilot study by the Medical Research Council.

Plans to boost flights from North-east NORTH-EAST hopes of improving the region's air services were now getting off the ground. MPs planned to boost both regular and charter flights from Teesside and Newcastle Airports - in a bid to see off the threat of Manchester dominating Northern air routes. Top priority for Teesside Airport was to find ways of increasing the volume of holiday package flights heading for the Continent and the USA.
