Every Person has a History to Tell
Readers are invited to submit articles and ideas for consideration in Remember When, but are reminded that such items may be condensed for reasons of space. Photographs to accompany articles are also welcomed.
GREAT praise for Remember When readers has come from Ken Wilson, who has been responsible for organising a re-union of members of St Martin"s Youth Club between 1953 and 1965. The event took place last Sunday, and Ken writes: It would not have been possible without the Remember When stories and photographs you published. I never foresaw the impact of the publicity, the phone has never stopped ringing and I have gathered in 85% of those shown on the photos.
DOROTHY says that over the years her mother would captivate the family with stories about her early life living around The Square and Thistle Green "We were always asking her to write those memories down," she says. "Sadly for us she left it too late as she only got as far as 1940, the year she was married to our father George Wright and the birth of our oldest brother Robert." THE class of 1955-56 at St Alphonsus RC Primary School has been submitted by Michael McPartland, of Middlesbrough, who writes: As you can see the lads were outnumbered by two to one, so making it difficult to get out of dancing lessons and out of the yearly dance festival at Stuart"s Park as you were never short of a dance partner. Girl in the picture could be my mum MY friend gets Remember When and passes it on to me whenever she comes to visit. The cover photo of the Co-op bakery shows my dad, Roman Greenley, who was a van driver for the bakery for years and met my mum there, Kathleen Haig. I was born in 1949. Mam and dad were working at the bakery in 1945 and, looking at the photo, the girl third along in the top row looks like my mum.
