AN EVENING revealing the secrets of an East Cleveland church belfry proved very appealing for want-to-be bell ringers. St Mark's Church in Marske threw open its doors to visitors recently to reveal the secrets to the art of bellringing.
A DETECTIVE who spent a quarter of century solving crimes on Teesside has died at the age of 89. Norman Hudson rose through the rank and file of the force to become Detective Chief Superintendent and head of the CID.
Mystery Is Solved ; Your Memories
FRANCES FORD, of Normanby, writes to say: I appear in the Mystery of the Wives photograph in one of your August editions. It was taken, I believe, in the early 1960s on a trip to Scotland. We were on Board a steamer on Loch Katrene. I think the photograph was taken by Mrs Barbara Harland, one of our party.

Joanne, who is manager of the company's new store in the Hill Street Shopping Centre, Middlesbrough, says: "As we were cleaning out our old store we came across this photo, which had obviously been dropped there some time ago.
AUDREY HARRISON (nee Adamson), of Great Ayton, writes to say: Lovely to hear someone is interested in the evacuation days at Brompton, also to know they boarded at the same farm as I did - Mr and Mrs Jeffries, of Hundgate Farm. They were wonderful days. I spent quite a lot of time tending cows on the Butts pasture land and being excused time from school to do so.

THE Making a Difference Charity Golf Day took place at Wilton Golf Club on Friday 18 September. It was originally planned for July 17 but the course was waterlogged following heavy rain, but everyone had their fingers crossed that the weather would be kind.

THE Teesside Basketball League will begin this week with Darlington Storm the latest addition to the increasingly-popular sports league. Last season saw SCM Sonics claim the Division One title while Middlesbrough Lions B lifted the championship in Division Two.
Josh Kicks Off Karate Action ; Karate
KARATE KID Joshua Chisholm has been selected to represent England at the European Championships in Nicosia, Cyprus, next month. The talented eight-year-old has been learning karate - Wado International Karate-Do Federation (WIKF) - since he was five at Cleveland Karate Club in his home town of Saltburn.
WHINNEY Banks Under 7s travelled to Newton Aycliffe for their first away game of the season. They quickly found themselves one goal to the good after a thumping free kick from Keaton Turnbull found the top left corner of the goal.
AFTER their exploits in the League Cup, it was back to the league for a tricky trip to Norton and Stockton Ancients that awaited Nunthorpe's U12s. This match would see Nunthorpe up against the team who defeated them in the final of the League Cup at the end of last season and they were looking to overcome that set-back.
NORTH Ormesby took on Brinkburn in what turned out to be a close match. North Ormesby missed chances early in the game and it proved costly as Brinkburn took the lead. From the resulting kick off, Doggy raced up the pitch to score with a well taken goal from Joe Tiernan.
IN perfect conditions, TIBS under 12B started brightly and went 1- 0 up after a couple of minutes when after Ben Parker was fouled in the box, Sam Horrocks scored the penalty. With TIBS in the lead and on a high they capitalised on Nunthorpe"s slow start. Tom Parker won the ball in the edge of the box and coolly slipped in Jordan Woollett for TIBS' second.
EAST Cleveland Ladies kicked off their second home game of the season against a well improved Huntington Ladies team. Huntington took the lead within the first five minutes, with a lack of concentration from Cleveland.
Marton FC 8 - Kader Rovers 0 MARTON continued their impressive early season form with a hard fought 8-0 victory over Kader. After an early period of activity in the centre of the park, Baker Braithwaite broke the deadlock with a powerful drive from outside the box.
TEESSIDE Athletic Girls had our first derby match between two of our teams and the F.C. team earned the bragging rights with a comprehensive 9-0 win in our under 12 age group. Lois Harkin was the girl of the match for our F.C team scoring five goals and was ably assisted by Faye Gardner who netted twice and both Lucy Stirk and Abi Robertson who scored one apiece. The Athletic player of the match was rightly earned by Chloe Bage for her crunching tackles and great defending.
THE U13s continued their good form in breathtaking fashion with a 14-0 home win against Billingham Town 'B'. In the first ten minutes, Billingham were proving hard to break down until a through ball saw Tom Young finish for his fifth goal of the season.
NEW MARSKE hosted TIBS in their first home league game and started the game very brightly taking the lead after only two minutes. Morgan Corner was played in down the right, and his cross was only half cleared to Luke Jackson who fired home a tremendous shot from the edge of the box.
Marton FC U10s turned up for their first away match of the season at Kader FC focused and up for the game ahead. The first half was a stale mate affair with neither team dominating the game.
Middleton Rangers U13 girls 2, Peterlee Helford 4 RANGERS kicked off determinedly and held their own against a confident Peterlee team ending the first half without score. The second half started with the advantage falling to Peterlee, who then quickly consolidated it with a second goal.
