A traumatised mum savagely beaten by burglars is living in fear after one of her attackers appealed against his jail sentence. Fran Falshaw, 55, was horrified when she received a letter from the Crown Prosecution Service explaining that Heath Randall, 39, had appealed against his seven-year jail term.
A hindu centre on Teesside is benefiting from a pounds 20,000 cash injection to employ a member of staff. The Hindu Cultural Centre on Westbourne Grove, North Ormesby, has received the funding from Lloyds TSB. A row has broken out over the opening of a care home for children at an upmarket address in Nunthorpe. Resident Julie Poole, 31, said she was given no warning before the house next door was taken over by private care company Millers Homes For Children.

Motorists in Sedgefield are being urged not to leave satellite navigation systems in their cars. Sedgefield Community Safety Partnership warned that car crime has been rising after Christmas. Popular targets for thieves include car body parts, alloy wheels and portable navigation systems. Neil Langthorne, crime prevention officer, said: "Satellite navigation systems are becoming popular with motorists.
